Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Los Angeles

Oxygen Therapy for Anxiety & Mental Health

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a fairly new, but effective form of treatment for a number of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and traumatic brain injuries.

The treatment involves administering 100% oxygen to the patient in higher-than-average atmospheric pressure. This increases the oxygen levels in the blood, which stimulates nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression, anxiety, paranoia, and other common side effects of TBI.

What to Expect During a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Session

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy takes place in a hyperbaric therapy room or individual chamber. The rooms are generally large and well lit, with comfortable reclining chairs for patients to sit in while receiving treatment. Individual hyperbaric oxygen units only fit one person and have transparent walls.
During treatment, the air pressure is increased to three times the normal pressure. This allows your lungs to gather even more oxygen than if you were to breathe 100% oxygen at sea level.
Patients are able to breathe easily during hyperbaric oxygen treatments. The only side effects might be inner ear complaints or eye dilation due to the increased air pressure. It’s also important to avoid flames or sparks during treatment due to the highly concentrated oxygen, which is flammable.
